Image shows Miss Charles Wilson standing at her grandfathers grave, Sampson July, in Brackettville's Seminole Indian Scout Cemetery. She is a retired teacher whose lineage is Black Seminole and whose ancestors were scouts. Black Seminoles Indigenous Scouts, were part of a fierce and crafty group of United States warriors who were an essential part of taming the west. This is part of a project to tell and bring forth an unnoted history of Black Seminole Indigenous contribution to United States conquest of the West. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram Sunday edition March 25, 1990.
