Image shows Charles Shelly Best, cleaning the Brackettville Seminole Indian Scout Cemetery where many of his relatives are buried. The headstone for Carolina July is seen in the foreground with Ray July's headstone visible in the background. Black Seminoles Indigenous Scouts, were part of a fierce and crafty group of United States warriors who were an essential part of taming the west. This is part of a project to tell and bring forth an unnoted history of Black Seminole Indigenous contribution to United States conquest of the West. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram Sunday edition March 25, 1990.
