Description
The Red River Shootout game between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas is being held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The rivalry began in 1900 and has been running since. The 1941 contest is all Longhorns as they took a 27-7 lead into second half. During a pass play in the third quarter, back R. L. Harkins has his choice of four open receivers - fullback Jack Crain (44), end Preston Flanagan (87), halfback Noble Doss (11), and end Malcolm Kutner. The picture is being snapped moments after Harkins (extreme left) released the ball and hit Kutner in stride (right). Kutner wiggled around defender Jack Jacobs (27), to score the Longhorns' fourth touchdown. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, October 12, 1941.
