Pioneers of the Oil Industry were on hand for the spudding of the wildcat, celebrating the discovery of oil in this state 45 years go. The overall-covered pioneers are (left to right) J. P. Shannon, C. D. Speed Senior, Corsicana, Texas; J. G. Hamill, Fort Worth, Texas, and A. W. Hamill of Tulsa, Oklahoma; William M. Elliott, Corsicana, Texas, and Frank Pickrell, Fort Worth, Texas. All were in town to attend the Texas Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association convention. The attendees are shown standing around a newly christened oil rig.
