Description
Captain Robert L. Smelley, B-25 pilot, whose plane was hit on one out of 48 missions over enemy territory. He is shown standing against a bare wall, wearing uniform and smiling for the camera. He flew the same plane with the same crew during the 13 months he was in the Pacific area. The crew returned to the States together last week and Captain Smelley is now spending a 30-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Smelley of Benbrook. He was made group leader after the outfit moved from New Guinea to the Philippines in January. He wears the Air Medal with three clusters. He graduated from Paschal High School in 1939.
