Description
First Lieutenant Leon L. Ballard, Houston, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Y. Ballard, pilot and plane commander of a Super Fortress of the 21st Bomber Command, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also holds the Air Medal. Ballard participated in the first B-29 incendiary bombing of Tokyo, Japan last March 10. His super fortress carried a war correspondent from the Boston Globe, who wrote an eye-witness report to the combined American press of that raid. Publish in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, July 2, 1945.
