Description

Sergeant David H. Livingston and brother Lieutenant Ollie B. Livingston have come home to Breckenridge, thus ending the story of four brothers--the story of three Purple Hearts, of a smashed hand, an injured back, the story of a leg lost in battle and 40 pounds lost in a German prison camp. It was nearly five years ago that Joe, Dotsie, Ollie and David Livingston bade their father, J.D. Livingston of Breckenridge, goodbye and went off to war--all members of the now-famed 36th Division. Joe came back home in 1944 as Staff Sgt. Joseph Q. Livingston, 34 , holder of the Purple Heart. Dotsie was next to return. He came as Pvt. Dotsie C. Lingston, 33, holder of the Purple Heart which he earned in France for an injured back suffered when he was bombed. He was in the Medical Corps. First Lt. Ollie B. Livingston, 26, returned May 29--minus part of his left leg. He, too, was wearing the Purple Heart. When Sgt. David H. Livingston, 27, walked in to say hello again on June 10, he had regained, most of the 40 pounds he had lost during his 19-month stay in German prison camps. All four brothers and the other six children of the Livingston family were in Breckenridge Sunday for a family reunion. David and Ollie were in Fort Worth Tuesday visiting their sister. Mrs. E. H. Baldridge. Shown, left to right: Sergeant David H. Livingston and brother Lieutenant Ollie B. Livingston sitting side by side on a sofa. Both are wearing their military uniforms. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Morning Edition June 20, 1945.
