Description
Master Sergeant (Sgt.) Don Lawson has collected 171 points to his credit during three years in the European Theater of Operations (ETO). Twelve battle stars and six decorations account for the majority of his points. He is pictured here. He is shown dressed in uniform and standing against a bare wall, facing front and posing for the camera. Lawson, a member of the oldest heavy bombardment group overseas, a unit attached to the 15th Air Force, won the Bronze Star Medal for making turret improvements and organizing a gunnery school. He was assigned to the ground force as a gun-sight section chief. He flew 22 combat missions for the experience and to test turret improvements. He was slightly wounded when his plane was damaged on a mission over Lyons, France, May 25, 1944. Other decorations he wears are the Purple Heart, Air Medal with one cluster, and the presidential unit citation with cluster. He is home in Fort Worth to spend a 30-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lawson, also will visit his uncle, R. R. Woodson. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, July 4, 1945.
