Description
Portrait of Captain James Frederic Redford in uniform, who was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously. He was killed in action with a tank battalion in France, December 11. The Purple Heart award has been sent to his widow, the former Miss June Brooks, who lives with their son, James Brooks Redford, 2, at Lordsburg, New Mexico. His mother, Mrs. Bess Redford, lives in El Paso, where he was born. His father, Fritz Redford, is a resident of Hot Springs, New Mexico. Captain Redford received chest wounds during action in Normandy last July 3. Returning to his battalion after two months in a hospital, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for service during the week of October 14 to 21.
