Description
Copy of a portrait photograph of Private First Class Johnny R. Butler Junior. He is an infantryman in the 3rd Army's 90th Division. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his first wound overseas on June 14, 1944. His second wound came on November 10, 1944, when shell fragments hit his right ear, both legs, and fractured his jaw. Private Butler wrote a letter to his wife, Lanelle Woods Butler, of Quitaque, Texas, assuring her that his recovery was progressing smoothly. Private Butler is pictured wearing his military uniform.
