Medals Awarded Posthumously. Mrs. Effie Bonner has received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal posthumously awarded her brother, Pfc. J.P. Shields. He was killed on Los Negros Island in the Admiralties last March 21. Shields, a member of the 12th Cavalry, took part in the New Guinea campaign. He was a forward scout for his unit on Los Negros and was ambushed while advancing through dense jungle. Photograph of Private First Class dressed in his military uniform.
