Description
Texas Angora Goat Raisers Association. Champion C type yearling buck, shown by W. S. Orr of Rocksprings, Texas was sold for $300 to Eugene Steiler of Fredericksburg, Texas. The goat has a prize-winning ribbon pinned to his back. Mr. Orr is crouching beside the goat, wearing a hat, a khaki button-up shirt, khaki trousers, and cowboy boots. There's a crowd of spectators in the barn behind them. From the clipping:"These Angora goats and others like them bring Texas each year around $10,000,000 which is about 85 percent of the total United States income from mohair. About 3,500,000 Angoras are clipped each year in Texas and the yield is a little less than five pounds each, selling for 50 to 65 cents a pound. Most of the Angoras are on Edwards Plateau ranches." Published Star-Telegram Morn. Aug. 9, 1944.
