Description

Texas Angora Goat Raisers Association. The B. type champion billy bred is shown by Sam F. Cooper of Leakey, Texas and was sold to the Peterson Stock Farm in Kerrville, Texas, for $260. Mr. Cooper is squatting next to his prize winning goat. He is wearing a straw stetson hat, khaki button-up long-sleeved shirt, khaki trousers, and cowboy boots. Hay covers the ground and there is a barn in the background. The angora goat is wearing a large championship ribbon.Information from the clipping"These Angora goats and others like them bring Texas each year around $10,000,000 which is about 85 percent of the total United States income from mohair. About 3,500,000 Angoras are clipped each year in Texas and the yield is a little less than five pounds each, selling for 50 to 65 cents a pound. Most of the Angoras are on Edwards Plateau ranches."
