Description
McKinney Soldier Wins Silver Star -- Sergeant Jesse W. Keeton Junior of McKinney, who is still in the South west Pacific, won the Silver Star for gallantry in action on Los Negros Islands in the Admiralties last March 4. Then a corporal, he was decorated for replenishing his squad's rapidly dwindling ammunition supply, while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division. Without hesitation, he crawled back, despite the enemy fire, and returned with supplies which enabled his squad to stand off the attack and eventually to defeat the Japanese. Sergeant Keeton is shown here. A young man in his military uniform, smiling for the camera. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, July 25, 1944.
