Description
First Lieutenant Robert Sumter Gerald is a pilot of the Flying Fortress Wheel and Deal. Gerald was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf clusters and the Air Medal with three clusters. He has completed 25 combat missions over enemy territory. His toughest raid was on Oct. 9 when his group made a diversionary attack on Anklam, German Pomerania where he led the second element and was assaulted by a swarm of German fighters off the coast of Denmark. Wheel and Deal was perforated by made a safe landing at home. Gerald is married to Miss Laura Helen Saylor of Goldthwaite. His father, R. J. Geralsd is a former county judge of Mills County.
