    Copy of First Lieutenant Joseph L. West portrait, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh N. West of Kermit, Texas, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for more than fifty missions as pilot of an unarmed transport plane, dropping supplies and carrying troops to forward areas in the Southwest Pacific. He is a native of Houston. His wife, the former Miss Evelyn Stone, and daughter are living with her parents in Oklahoma City.Photograph is of West wearing pilot uniform with scarf. He has a helmet and pilot goggles on top of his head. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram, morning edition, April 4, 1944.
