Description

Army Private First Class (Pfc.) Ernest F. Flipp has been reported missing in action since December 7, 1943, after the Allied battle of Salerno, Italy. Flipp was serving with an infantry unit in the 5th Army. His brother-in-law, Private First Class (Pfc.) Ray Pierce, fought in the same battle and died from wounds he suffered. Mrs. Helen Pierce received two shocking news on the same day about her husband's death and her brother missing in action. Private (Pfc.) Flipp is shown in his official military photograph, a copy of his portrait photograph. He is dressed in his military uniform. He entered the service with the National Guard at Cleburne, Texas. He has trained at Camp Bowie, Blanding and Edwards, and has been in action overseas since April. He is the son of Mrs. J. E. Flipp of San Antonio, Texas, and grandson of Mrs. Ora Green. His wife and baby son, Ernest Frederick, born November 30, 1943, whom he has never seen, are living with her mother. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, January 22, 1944.
