    Description

    The 1943 Golden Gloves State Tournament is being held at Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. Winners of the tournament will advance to the Tournament of Champions in Chicago, Illinois. Representing the state of Texas, left to right, are Jose Andres (flyweight), Sergeant Manuel Ortega (featherweight), Hubert Gray (lightweight), Private Tom Attra (light-heavyweight), Corporal Harry Flowers (middleweight), Morris Carona (welterweight) and Private Gene Poletti (heavyweight). Private Frankie Montoya (not pictured) was the winner of the bantamweight class. Corporal Flowers was unable to attend the national tournament due to his military obligation. He will be replaced by runner-up Emil Zoltak. The boxers are lined up against a wall, wearing trousers and matching athletic coats.
