Description
The 1943 Golden Gloves District Tournament is being held at Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. Competing in the semi-finals of the light-heavyweight class, left to right, are Willard "Pee Wee" Holton and Staff Sergeant Presley Darnell. Holton was last year's heavyweight champion. This year he dropped a class to 167 pounds. Darnell is a 154-pound flying soldier from Tarrant Field. He is shown crouching as he hits Holton with a body blow. Darnell went on to win to win the decision. He later became the district champion after defeating Archie Van Sickel.
