Description

"Below, Lieutenant J. Frank Norris Junior, of the Navy, addresses the recruits before swearing them in. Shown with his are his father, Reverend J. Frank Norris, in the white suit, and Monsignor Joseph G. O'Donohoe." The mass induction ceremony was part of the "Avengers of Pearl Harbor" event held at Burnett Park in Fort Worth, Texas. Lieutenant Norris appears to the center-left of the photograph. He is wearing his white Navy service uniform, with rankings adorned on his shoulders, and his service cap. In his hands he is holding a piece of paper, and his wedding ring is visible on his left ring finger. He is facing to the right of the camera, and speaking into two microphones as he addresses the crowd. To his left, in the center of the photo, is his father, Reverend Norris. He is wearing a light suit, with a white undershirt and a dark tie. He is looking down at the camera. Monsignor O'Donohoe to the left of Reverend Norris, and is wearing a dark religious suit with a white clerical collar. He is holding a tan hat and is looking down at the camera smiling. In the background you can see two other individuals wearing their religious attire. One of the individuals is facing the camera and holding a tan hat, and the other has his arms crossed and is facing to the right of the camera. Behind Lieutenant Norris is a large clock indicating that it is 1:25 PM. In the center of the clock appears a hand that is holding a cigar.
