Description

The 1942 Golden Gloves State Tournament is being held at Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. Squaring off for the heavyweight title, left to right, are James Olcott Phillips and Gilbert Stromquist. Phillips is a soldier at Camp Bowie and is representing Fort Worth, Texas, in tournament. Stromquist, of Temple, Texas, is representing the Austin, Texas, district. Phillips is shown sending a left jab to the jaw of his opponent. The attack plan proved successful and Phillips was able to outscore Stromquist and win the heavyweight state title.
