    Description

    Amateur boxers from all around the area are preparing for the 1942 Golden Gloves District Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas. One of the challengers for the heavyweight division is 227-pound J. B. "Punkin" Smith. He is a freshman student at Texas Christian University (T. C. U.), where he plays tackle on the football team. Before transferring to T. C. U., Smith boxed at North Texas Agricultural College. He is shown training at the gym, posing in a fighting stance.
