Description

The bi-district schoolboy classic is being held in Witchita Falls, Texas. Competing in the high school football game are the Lubbock Westerners (white jerseys) and the Wichita Falls Coyotes. The Hill-to-Smith combination was working all afternoon for the Coyotes. R. D. Smith (5) is shown looking back to catch a pass from Gene Hill. The football is being threaded between two approaching Lubbock defenders - Robert Brewer (12) and Franklin Butler (66). Smith caught the pass on the ten-yard line and charged across the goal line for the final touchdown. Wichita Falls downed Lubbock 30-13. An audience is seated in the stands and a pipe goalpost is in view. The players are wearing leather helmets. "(Star-Telegram Photos by Wilburn Davis.)" Published Star-Telegram Morn. Dec. 7, 1941.
