Description
A Naval ship, the USS Reuben James, was hit by a torpedo near Iceland on October 31, 1941. Announcement of the sinking ship was broadcast over the radio. Families of the crew - seven officers and 136 enlisted men - are awaiting news. Mrs. Nancy Reid is shown tuning her radio and reading the front page story in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Her son, Lee Reid, is a crewman on the Reuben James. Mrs. Reid is wearing a button-up blouse, skirt, and a coat.
