Description
The South Grand Prairie High School (SGPHS) mascot, the Warrior, is seen with the confederate flag painted on his face during a football game against Grand Prairie High School (GPHS) at Gopher Stadium. During the game, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) protested the use of the Confederate flag by SGPHS outside of the stadium. This came as a result of SGPHS football player Fred Coleman Jr. being reportedly dismissed from the football team after he had protested playing under the school’s Confederate battle flag. Inside the stadium, GPHS fans flew American flags and carried signs that read, "Who won the Civil War?" On the SGPHS side, fans waved the Confederate flag and carried signs reading, "The South Shall Rise Again."
