Description

Normally a maze of intermingled plugs and cords, with an operator in every chair, this is how a section of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company's long distance switchboard looked as two men at the far end began handling emergency long distance calls. Operators refused to cross an installer's picket line around the main exchange building. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, November 9, 1950.
