Brothers Donald Culbertson and Doyle Culbertson are shown laying with their dog. Donald Culbertson, 15, is shown petting cocker spaniel "Smoky", with his younger brother Doyle, 13, looking over his shoulder. The two boys along with Smoky and another boy were all involved in a Trinity River maroon-and-rescue incident the previous day. Published in the evening edition, April 14, 1950.
