Description

The Red River Shootout game between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas is being held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The rivalry began in 1900 and has been running since. The 1941 contest is all Longhorns early, mainly due to superior blocking up front. A run from the first quarter depicts the excellent interference from the Longhorn linemen. Fullback Jack Crain, 44, is shown taking advantage of the hole straight up the middle, while many Sooners are laying in the grass. Two key blocks came from tackle Julian Garrett and center Henry Harkins. The run went for eleven yards and the first down. The Longhorns went on to win the game 40-7. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, October 13, 1941.
