Description

The 1941 college football season is opening at Farrington Field in Fort Worth, Texas. The Texas Wesleyan Rams are hosting the visiting Hardin-Simmons Cowboys. Some 300 West Texas rooters are shown invading downtown Fort Worth. The Cowboy Band is forming a semicircle. In the middle, riding on white horses, are Sheriff Will Watson and Miss Gloria Sadler. Sheriff Watson is the sheriff of Abilene, Texas. He is holding an American flag, dressed in a ten gallon hat, button-up shirt, and trousers. Miss Sadler is a student at H. S. U. She is holding a Texas flag, dressed in a hat, collared shirt, trousers, and cowboy boots. Eldon Scroggin is standing at the right with the H. S. U. mascot "Cowboy" - a tiny Palomino mule. There is a man watching from a suspended cover over the doorway on the building behind the activity, next to a set of fire stairs that are pulled up. Published Star-Telegram Morn. Sep. 21, 1941.
