Description
The Hardin-Simmons Cowboys and the Texas Wesleyan Rams are facing off to open their 1940 college football seasons. As advance publicity for the game, the Rams' sweetheart Miss Elizabeth McElyea is greeting the rival Cowgirl Pep Squad. The Cowgirls, left to right, are Dorothy Richie, Virginia East, Dottie Shaw, Nita Fielder, Wilma Gravis, and Johnnie Arendall. Miss McElyea is a sophomore at T. W. C. She is dressed in a sweater and a plaid skirt. The Cowgirl pep squad are wearing matching uniforms, consisting of cowboy hats, western lame fabric blouses, acetate bandannas, rhinestone and rivet studded leather belts and cuffs, fake bullets on the belts, velvet skirts, silk stockings, cowboy boots, and ropes. Ms. Shaw is wearing rimless eyeglasses. Published in the Star-Telegram morning edition, Sep. 18, 1941.
