Description

The Masonic Home High School football team is trying for their fourth straight district 7-AA Championship. Four little rascals from the 1940 season have grown into the husky, talented Masons backfield. Pictured, left to right, are Gordon Brown, Billy Joe Cagle, Louis Burress, and Dewitt Coulter. Brown (43), a fullback, was all-state in 1940. Cagle (33) is a wing-back. Burress (7) is a tailback. Coulter (8) is a blocking back. They are shown in a running formation, blocking for Cagle, who is carrying the ball. The school building is in the background. The one story brick buildings are in the foreground behind the boys with a tall smokestack behind them. There is also a black sedan in the background and a boy as bystander. "This Is What Masonic Home's 'Little Rascals' of Last Year Have Grown Into. TAKE A GOOD LOOK at these four husky youngsters. You're going to see plenty of them at Farrington Field the next three months as the Masonic Home Masons try for their fourth straight district 7-AA championship. Some critics think this big and talented Mason quartet, composed of FULLBACK GORDON BROWN, WINGBACK BILLY JOE CAGLE, TAILBBACK LOUIS BURRESS and BLOCKING BACK DEWITT COULTER, in left to right order, will be one of the State's top schoolboy backfields before the season is over. Brown was all-state last year, Burress saw some service and both Cagle and Coulter were regular linemen." Star-Telegram Photo, Star-Telegram Eve, Sep 3, 1941.
