Description
"Old Steamboat" is the loudest voice in town on New Year's Eve. The whistle is the powerhouse of the Lancaster yards of the Texas and Pacific Railway. When the clock strikes twelve on News Year's Eve, volunteers will blow the whistle , which is backed by 250 pounds of steam. The sound can be heard for miles. Rehearsing for the big day are, left to right, C. C. Good and Herman Averitt. Mr. Good has sounded off Old Steamboat every New Year's for the last twelve years. This year, due to a promotion to chief engineer, he is passing the honors to Mr. Averitt. Mr. Good is dressed in a three piece suit. Mr. Averitt is wearing a button-up shirt, sweater, and trousers.
