Captain J. G. Glass, veteran flier and pilot for American airlines. The captain, who has been flying for more than 20 years, related interesting experiences in Mexico where he was one of the founders of the Mexican Aviation Company. He was a government flier during a Mexican uprising in 1923, he transported payrolls and also nitroglycerine which was used to bring in oil wells. Captain Glass, who has been with American Airlines since 1928, has flown over 2,000,000 miles and has had 18,000 hours in the air. He was based in Fort Worth for a number of years when he served as pilot of the Fort Worth for a number of years when he served as pilot of the Fort Worth to Laredo run and later on the Fort Worth to Atlanta schedule. The pilot held the stick on the first sleeper plane to leave Los Angeles. Radio, he believes, is one of the biggest contributions to safety flying. Born in McLean in the Texas Panhandle, Captain Glass first applied for aviation training during the World War. His application was deferred until the close of hostilities at which time he began his preliminary training at March Field in California. He received his advance training at Kelly Field. Mr. Glass is dressed in a suit, sitting on a couch, holding a pipe. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, December 3, 1940.
