Community Chest volunteers are pictured here. The Volunteers of America consider the placing of a baby in an adoptive home the most responsible procedure in the whole range of social service work. Shown at work in the Majestic Building office of this Community Chest agency are, left to right, Mrs. Bernice Apetz, home superintendent; Miss Ruth Abbott, child placing department supervisor, and Lieutenant Colonel (Lieut. Col.) W. R. Apetz, Texas commander of the Volunteers of America. Mrs. Apetz and Miss Abbott are sitting at a table looking at paperwork. Lieutenant Colonel (Lieut. Col.) Apetz is dressed in suits and ties and standing next to Miss Abbott looking over her left shoulder also viewing the documents. Mrs. Apetz is wearing a dark color sweater, and Miss Abbott is wearing a dark color dress. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition November 12, 1940.
