A Solemn Note Sounded in the Large Paschal High School Auditorium -- Thursday night when the one hundred fourteen (114) chief registrars took their oaths of voluntary office to administer the registration of young men in Tarrant County, Texas to the draft. Five of them are mentioned here. These five are typical of the men and women who swore to do their duty fairly and honestly. Left to right, A. G. Johnson, of the Young Men's Christian Association; Mrs. Seth Garrison, 1612 Tremont: Miss Ella Bideker, 501 Jennings: H. C. Murphy, 1903 Robin, and B. Frank Kauffman, 519 Hemphill. They are shown raising their hand. Mr. Johnson is dressed in a suit. Mrs. Garrison is wearing a polka-dot dress and carrying her purse under her arm. Miss Bideker is wearing a hat, dress, and a coat. Mr. Murphy is wearing a light colored suit. Mr. Kauffman is dressed in a suit with a pocket square. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, October 11, 1940.
