By airplane and ambulance sports fans converged on Texas Christian University Stadium to witness the inaugural Southwest Conference game between the Horned Frogs of Texas Christian University (TCU) vs. University of Arkansas football game spectators. Band sweetheart for the day wasJean Montgomery, Sweetwater, Texas, who is being escorted by Tom Barber, drum major. Montgomery is wearing a dress and a hat and carrying a very large bouquet that was provided by band director Don Gillis. Barber is wearing his uniform, which includes an embroidered shirt, a large belt, and a very large hat; he is also carrying a baton. The two of them are standing on the football field with a crowd of people in the stands in the background behind them. Star-Telegram Morning, October 6 1940.
