Four soldiers were in town to represent Camp Crowder at the Texas Sectional Tennis Tournament at the Colonial Country Club stopped by the Service Men's Center. Shown here is Private Jimmie Roberts, left, city tennis champion from 1941-43, played in the men's single in the tournament. A Texas Christian University (TCU) student for two years before his induction into the Army Signal Corps. Robert was visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Roberts, and his sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Hillard. Other members of of the camp's team were: Private first class Frank Smith, who went undefeated on the St. John's University team in 1942; Private Bert Hamilton of the Army Air Corps, Chicago, member of the University of Illinois team in 1942, and Private Bob Barker, Niagara Fall, New York, who won the championship in two national parks games before his induction.
