    Portrait in uniform of Lieutenant Curtis D. Hail, 143rd Infantry officer, who was reported missing in action last September 23 and is now known to be a prisoner of the Germans. Hail was caught in cross-fire after crossing the Moselle River and wounded, losing two fingers on his right hand, before being captured. He went overseas as first sergeant April 1, 1943, and was commissioned on the field in Italy June 30, 1944. He fought with the 36th Division at Salerno, was wounded at San Pietro, Italy, Dec. 8, 1943, and awarded the Purple Heart. After recovering, he took part in the invasion of southern France. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Hail. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram, morning edition, April 2, 1945.
