Amateur boxers from all over the state are competing for the 1942 Golden Gloves State Championship in Fort Worth, Texas. One of the challengers in the tournament is Army man, Corporal J. Olcott Phillips. The 24-year-old is an honor student at Rice University and has already passed his bar examinations. Relatively new to the sport, Phillips has competed in 15 fights, nine at the regional, division, and state tournaments. He outfought the favorites for the state heavyweight championship. He is shown sitting on a chair, dressed in his military uniform.
