Description

Marion Miley, a nationally known golf star, and her mother Mrs. Fred Miley were killed on September 28, 1941. They were staying at the Lexington Country Club in Lexington, Kentucky, when the robbery-homicide occurred. Two Fort Worth Police detectives were following a lead on another case when they saw a two-toned Buick with Kentucky plates parked outside a beer tavern. On a hunch, the detectives brought the driver and passenger in for questioning. Pictured, left to right, are Detective Theron Brooks, suspect Tom Penney, accomplice Leo H. Gaddis, and Detective Ed Smith. The Fort Worth detectives will question the suspects fully before turning them over to Lexington, Kentucky, police. Detective Brooks is wearing a hat, dress shirt, necktie, and trousers. Mr. Penney is an ex-convict from Fort Worth, Texas, and the suspected gunman in the Miley murder. He is dressed in a polka-dot shirt. Mr. Gaddis is a friend of Penney. He is wearing a pinstripe button-up shirt with cuffed sleeves. Detective Smith is dressed in a hat and a pinstripe suit.
