Description
Cannon fire resounded near Newcastle, Texas as the 131st Artillery continued their preview of activities preceding encampment at Camp Bowie in Brownwood, Texas. Five military men are standing in the back of a truck. Lieutenant Gilbert Webb, of Jacksboro, Texas, is using the battery commander's telescope. He is observing fire results on a target across the Salt Fork of the Brazos River, 1,600 yards away. Behind Lieutenant Webb is Captain Henry P. Widmer of Abilene, Texas. On the left wearing the campaign hat is Lieutenant Colonel C. W. Mays, a regular Army instructor from Austin, Texas. Two unidentified men are at the left.
