Winning Mare and Colt at State Fair -- A mare and her colt took high honors in the horse show at the State Fair of Texas. Rex Elkins III, is a 6 month-old chestnut walking horse belonging to Joe D. Johnson of Fort Worth that won first place in his class and became the junior champion saddle stallion of the fair. Rex Elkins III was sired by Johnson's walking show horse, Rex Elkins Jr., out of his mare, Fanny Elkins. Mare Fanny is another winner at the fair. Colt Rex Elkins III, is shown here. Someone off camera is holding Rex's lead rope. The stable is in the background. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, October 20, 1940.
