Description
The school year at Alexander Hogg Elementary School is opening with a scene typical of many schools in Fort Worth, Texas. Donald Leach, left, is trying the old-fashioned custom of bringing his new teacher a shiny red apple. Billie Ruth Valentine, right, is trying a different approach. Her friendship offering is a bouquet of daisies, hidden behind her back. Miss Beulah Johnson is sitting at her desk, reading from a dictionary as the fourth grade students present their gifts. Donald, ten, is dressed in a short-sleeve collared shirt and trousers. He is carrying a stack of books. Miss Johnson is wearing a paisley dress with an American Flag pin. Billie Ruth, eleven, is wearing a gingham dress.
