Mrs. Richard J. Turrentine of Denton, first woman to serve on the Texas Board of Public Welfare is pictured here. She is the wife of retired professor Turrentine, Texas State College for Women (TSCW). In the picture, Mrs. Turrentine is pouring tea into a cup from a tea pot while she stands in front of a mirror. She is wearing a dress with a flower pattern on the upper left part of it and a pair of eyeglasses. Governor Jester appointed her as one of the state's three-member Board of Public Welfare for a six-year term. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, March 26, 1947.
