Description
The Texas State high school final game is being played Saturday, December 28, 1946 in Austin, Texas. Competing for the State Championship are the Odessa Bronchos and the Jefferson Mustangs (striped helmets) of San Antonio, Texas. The Bronchos' star halfback Harvey "Pug" Gabrel (20) is shown running the football into the end zone for their first score. Attempting the tackle is Mustang Kyle Rote (21). Other defenders are Bubba Wilson (33) and Wallace Tassos (39). The Odessa Bronchos went on to beat the Mustangs, winning the 1946 State Championship 21-14.
