Description

The Texas State high school final game is being played Saturday, December 28, 1946 in Austin, Texas. Competing for the State Championship are the Odessa Bronchos and the Jefferson Mustangs (striped helmets) of San Antonio, Texas. The Bronchos' star back, Byron Townsend (27) is leaping over the defensive linemen a one-yard gain and a first down. The short run set up the Bronchos' first touchdown on the next play. Other defenders are Wallace Tassos (39), Kyle Rote (21), and John Boldt (35). Blocking for the Bronchos is Wayne Jones (30). The Odessa Bronchos went on to beat the Mustangs, winning the 1946 State Championship 21-14.
