Description
Horace Chilton McDaniel is an Associated Press operator. He is beginning his thirtieth year with the company, starting on Labor Day. For more than two decades, Mr. McDaniel has been one of the first men in Fort Worth, Texas to receive world news. Many big stories come across his desk including the sinking of the Titanic, the attack on Pearl Harbor, and V. E. Day. When he began in 1917, the Associated Press used Phillips code over a Morse Telegraph. Now the single wire telegraph has been replaced by a network of teletype circuits. Mr. McDaniel is sitting on a stool. He is wearing a dress shirt, necktie, and trousers.
