Description
Louis S. Cates of New York City, New York, president of the Phelps Dodge Corporation, declared that Office of Price Administration regulations had resulted in a copper mining strike of more than 16,000 workers and had cut off 65% of copper production in the United States. In the image, Cates is standing in a room wearing a suit and a hat, smiling. There is a huge poster of a man's face hanging on the wall behind him. Cates, who is the president of American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, leveled his charges against governmental restrictions during an interview as he spoke Tuesday night in Hotel Texas at a dinner meeting of the North Texas Section of the Petroleum Division of the Institute. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, May 29, 1946.
