Thirty -Five Denton County farm youths were assured a summer outing at Lake Dallas as 1,300 members and guests of the Denton County Pointer and Setter Club paid $1 each at the club's annual barbecue on the Colonel Tom Cole Ranch west of Denton. Visitors from Dallas, Tarrant, Wise and Denton Counties ate 1,000 pounds of beef and all the trimmings on Cole's picturesque Hickory Creek ranch. Col. Cole is has an apron on as he fill a plate with the barbecue delicacies. He is standing in front of a table containing food. Behind him are two unidentified men wearing cowboy hats and smoking pipes. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram May 12, 1946.
