Description
A special Spring Training game is being held at LaGrave Field a week before 1946 Opening Day. The Fort Worth Cats, a minor league affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers, are hosting the St. Louis Cardinals. In the top of the sixth inning the Cardinals' star player, Stan Musial (6) attempted a steal of second. Musial is shown sliding feet first into the bag as the throw from Cat catcher George Pfister bounces away from shortstop Barney White. The errant throw allowed Musial to advance to third. Also pictured are Cat second basemen Romanus Basgall and umpire Marvin Clark. The Cardinals went on to win 98 games and the World Series in 1946. Stan Musial was named the National League Most Valuable Player.
